Voter Information

Make Your Vote Count

Don’t just look at the TV ads to make your decision about who is right for the job; visit the League of Women Voters-Minnesota website,
www.lwvmn.organd click on "Voting" near the top of the page. At this site, you can enter your address and get a list of primary and general election candidates and read their responses to a set of questions on current issues.

Watch a candidate forum and hear the candidate’s voice directly. League of Women Voters-Edina hosted candidate forums for all local general election races this fall. League forums are strictly non-partisan and are an opportunity to hear the candidates speak about why they are running for office and where they stand on the issues. Audience members are encouraged to ask questions of the candidates.

Voters who are registered at least 20 days before the election will have their name on the list of voters at the polls on Election Day. Unregistered citizens 18 and older may register on Election Day with a valid driver’s license or other proof of residency. (See the Secretary of State website, www.sos.state.mn.us for other documents accepted as proof of residence.)

If you cannot make it back to your precinct on Election Day (for example a college student living away from home), you may apply for an absentee ballot. Complete an application for an absentee ballot and turn it in or mail it to your local election official. Your absentee ballot will be mailed to you. It is very important that the instructions on the absentee ballot be followed correctly or the ballot will not be counted.

Encourage young people to become familiar with voting. On Election Day, League of Women Voters-Edina was one of the sponsors of Kids Vote. Students K-12 were able to vote for the same candidates and issues by confidential ballot when they accompany an adult to the polling place.
